Peculiarities

This retro variety has remained popular for the second decade. Flowers in the form of simple and semi-double pansies with a wide red-fuchsia very lush corrugated border are usually collected in a bouquet that does not fade for quite a long time. Depending on the temperature and humidity, flowers can change color intensity. Sometimes the same rosette can bloom with both the colors characteristic of this variety and more vibrant ones. On such flowers, the brightness of the color appears due to small specks of fantasy, as if scattered from the bright border along the pink petal. Plants that always bloom with a large number of fantasy specks along the pink petal are considered sports. A slight variable golden border may also appear along the very edge of the ruffled petal. Peduncles are strong and erect. There are usually 3 flowers on one peduncle. With sufficient humidity and lighting suitable for this variety, flowering is frequent, bouquet, and of medium abundance.

The rosette is compact, smooth, made of rounded quilted leaves. When there is insufficient air humidity, the leaves begin to turn perpendicular to the plane of the rosette. The rosette is said to “twist” the leaves. Probably due to the increased demands on air humidity, this variety feels great on capillary mats. Another characteristic feature of the variety is that it does not like bright lighting. If you place the rosette in the center of the shelf under the lighting itself, then after a while the leaves of the rosette rise up. It feels good on the edge of a shelf away from the backlight or on a north-west or north-east window sill, and not at the window itself, but closer to the edge of the window sill. This variety is not for beginners. To grow a beautiful rosette and obtain lush flowering, an individual approach is required.

Photo and description of the variety

This retro variety attracts with its bright pink pansies with a slightly ruffled wide border in a dark cherry shade.

The foliage is dark green with a red underside. The leaf plate is large, smooth, quilted.

The peculiarity of the variety is that in the center of the rosette the foliage lies very tightly and does not spread out . But the bush itself is always smooth and compact.

Also, leaf plates tend to curl downwards.

also prone to thickening of the rosette , especially in the summer when there is a lot of light. To correct the situation, the plant should be placed in a darker place. This variety prefers a small amount of light and should not be kept on a windowsill.

This variety also does not tolerate dry air well. In such conditions, it may be unsightly to turn or twist the leaf plates.

The flowers are very delicate, double or, less commonly, semi-double pansies with a ruffled edge. Along the edge of the petal there is a wide border of corrugated color.

In cool conditions, a thin green border may appear , although this feature is not mentioned in the author's description.

At the first flowering, the ruffled ruffle appears less, but with each subsequent flowering the petals become more wavy. Also, at low temperatures, the color intensity may appear more clearly.

The bud size reaches 5 cm.

The peculiarity of the variety is that after four or five flowerings the rosette mutates and sport appears . The most common genetic mutation is called the Queen's Dress. A sign of this phenomenon is the presence of a large number of hemp on the surface of the petals.

There are lines of the variety with a large number of fantasy inclusions throughout the petal. Also, the buds in such cases never open completely.

Sometimes on the same rosette both ordinary flowers characteristic of the variety and brighter and darker flowers with small fantasy inclusions may appear. When flowering again, the rosette can produce varietal flowering.

The variety produces frequent and abundant flowering. Blossoms in a bouquet. The peduncles are low, but strong. Each of them can have 3-4 buds. The bouquet is obtained due to the fact that each flower lasts a very long time.

It can bloom for up to two months and not a single flower will fade. The breaks between flowering are short, the variety responds gratefully to care. is very important to ensure proper lighting and humidity levels.

Attention! It is important to note that this variety is not for beginners. To obtain proper and abundant flowering, it is worth taking into account the individual characteristics of the variety.

High demands on air humidity allow this variety to be grown on capillary mats.

The Lyon`s Pirate`s Treasure violet is so often used for sport that when buying a cutting it is worth seeing the plant itself and its flowering. Also, for a more complete guarantee of obtaining a rosette with varietal characteristics, it is worth purchasing more than one cuttings and waiting until all the children bloom.

It is this variety that has a strong tendency to genetic mutations . Each of the children can produce a different bloom - bright flowers, strong contrasts are possible, and there are also options with enlarged or reduced upper petals.

Out of ten children, only two or three will inherit the characteristics of the mother plant. The rest will be sports. It is worth selecting starters with light foliage and without waves along the edges of the leaf blade.

If the baby has dark foliage, a clumsy rosette, and waves along the edges of the plate, then most likely it will be a sport that does not open buds. The fringe on the petals of such plants is brown and very curly. It is she who does not allow the petals to open.

Reviews

Tatiana Lysikova. The variety is beautiful, interesting, but difficult. There are lines where the flowers do not fully open, the leaves “spin” in all planes, and there is a very abundant fantasy throughout the entire petal. Therefore, the cutting must be taken from a plant that you have seen with your own eyes. I have a rosette of this variety growing directly under LEDs in bright and long-lasting light with overhead watering. Blooms constantly with short breaks. The flowers are quite large, about 5 cm. The golden ruffle on the upper petals is most pronounced in cool conditions. The socket is smooth and compact.

Elena Vyugina: I had this variety. Irretrievably spoiled. This is what he looked like last year (see photo). And this is how it bloomed this year (second photo). It stood on the north-west window, the rosette was like a horse, but the flowering also matched the size of the rosette - a lush cap. Bloomed long and profusely. I kept the sheet for myself, it’s already with the kids, I wonder what will come of this sport. And I gave it to the mother in the photo. I have an assumption that the variety has spoiled after a long and too hot winter on the windowsill, however, there was illumination, probably thanks to this illumination, such cap-like flowering occurred. In our country, if they drown, it’s like Africa is in the apartment! The window sill was hot all winter. I think it’s better to keep this variety on a rack, away from hot radiators, then you can open a window for ventilation without fear. And this sport is called the Empress Dress. A good variety, it even has beautiful sports!

Alena Buryakova: Very accurate and useful observations, I will add that the variety grows slowly, the leaves come out tightly, they thicken in the center, the variety is difficult.

Floweraholic: I don’t agree that the variety is tough - I have a number of bushes, they grow quickly, it’s true that they are all slightly different in color and the sports are very beautiful, they only come out in one dark tone, and the leaves often twist - but I just put them down on a shelf and the leaves evened out like a decent one.

Main characteristics of violet Lyons pirates treasure

This unusual variety has become popular among gardeners and pleases the eye with its beauty. Violet flowers have a semi-double surface, pink color with a ruffled and pronounced border; they are collected in a small bouquet that blooms for a long time. The plant may change color, depending on humidity and air temperature. In some cases, one rosette can bear both regular flowers and brighter ones. The flowers are given their brightness by small specks that scatter from the edge along the entire petal. A light golden border may appear along the edge of the petal. The peduncles have a strong structure, located straight, and up to three flowers usually appear on them. If conditions are favorable, that is, humidity, light, and temperature are suitable, then the plant often blooms with abundant bouquets of flowers. The rosette has a compact and even appearance, consists of rounded quilted leaves; if there is not enough humidity in the air, they turn perpendicular to the rosette. This type of violet requires high air humidity, so it can be actively grown on capillary mats. Violet is different in that it does not accept too bright lighting. If a lot of light hits it, the leaves straighten and rush upward; direct rays of the sun must be avoided. The northwest or northeast side is favorable for growing. To grow a beautiful rosette, you need to provide proper care for the plant. The Lyons pirates treasure variety is distinguished by foliage, the edges of which are curled down, the flowers can be up to 5 centimeters in size, and their color is pink.
