The shrub grows very slowly, preferring shaded places with neutral soil. However, yew is a fairly extensive genus, which contains not only shrubs, but also tall columnar trees. The color of the needles includes a wide range of color shades from bright green to golden. Female specimens of this dioecious plant produce small, poisonous seeds.
