Indoor white chrysanthemums bring peace in the family, health and prosperity

Among the huge variety of colors inherent in the “queens” of the autumn garden, white chrysanthemums are especially popular. This is the least cliched flower. A bouquet of white chrysanthemums can be presented to anyone and for any occasion, without the risk of getting into an ambiguous position. By choosing it as a gift, you can put a unique meaning into the composition, combining sincerity, respect and gratitude.

White chrysanthemums: symbolism, history of appearance in Europe

My eyes saw everything in the world - and returned to you, white chrysanthemums. Ransetsu (1654-1707). Japanese Hoku

The cultivation of perennial bush chrysanthemums as an ornamental crop first began in Southeast Asia. This happened over 3 thousand years ago. Moreover, at the same time, two countries with ancient traditions and culture - Japan and China - are arguing for the right to be called the Homeland of this incredibly beautiful flower.

The qualities that chrysanthemums symbolize largely stem from their flowering season - autumn, the time of year most suitable for taking stock and rethinking life experiences. The tart, bitter aroma of Chinese and Japanese chrysanthemum and its dense petals, which are not afraid of prolonged rains and frosts, are associated in philosophy with fortitude, strength of character and convictions, wisdom, maturity and longevity.

These flowers came to Europe in the 17th century, but at that time intensive selection had not yet been applied to them; outwardly they were almost no different from daisies and did not make a splash. Attitudes towards them changed after the flower exhibition held in 1889 in Paris. It summed up the results of the hundred-year culture of chrysanthemum cultivation in Europe. The audience was presented with the “queens” of the autumn garden of different colors with large and small reed, feather-shaped, tubular, radiant, needle-shaped and lanceolate petals. Each one was beautiful and unique. But it was the white chrysanthemum of the Willis variety that made the greatest impression. This huge (41 cm in diameter) voluminous flower resembled a Caucasian papakha. One of the visitors to the exhibition, a highlander, was so amazed by the beauty of this flower that he gave the gardener who raised it 30 choice rams.

To whom is it customary to give white chrysanthemums?

Chrysanthemums occupy a special place in the symbolism of the “flower” world. Speaking about what they mean in its hierarchy, you need to understand: these gifts of flora are not as romantic as roses, but also not as strict as hyacinths. More common than newfangled hydrangeas, but they also do not have stable associative connections, like, for example, carnations. A bouquet of white chrysanthemums does not have a pronounced romantic connotation and is appropriate when congratulating a manager or colleagues, a business partner, a doctor, a teacher, elderly people of any gender or older relatives.

The one who gives you white chrysanthemums seems to be telling you: “Trust me.” In addition, snow-white chrysanthemum heals the soul from pain and negativity, helps to relax, and brings peace.

An excellent solution is to present a snow-white bouquet as a sign of apology or reconciliation: the white color, including in the language of flowers, has symbolized sincerity and purity of intentions since ancient times. Since aster flowers remain fresh for a long time even after cutting, the chances of erasing resentment from the opponent’s heart increase - after all, it is difficult not to forgive a person whose feelings are reminded for so long by a beautiful bouquet on the table.

And, of course, one of the most popular events where flowers with snow-white petals are often used is a wedding celebration. If the yellow chrysanthemum is usually called the “queen of autumn,” then the white one can be called, without exaggeration, the “queen of wedding bouquets.” In the East, it is believed that if a bride chooses a white chrysanthemum (in the language of flowers, a symbol of purity and innocence) as the main flower for her bouquet, her marriage will be blessed by heaven.

What do white chrysanthemums symbolize?

The language of flowers developed back in the 18th century. According to this science, almost every plant has its own symbol. The name of the white chrysanthemum literally translated from Greek means “golden flower”. In different countries this culture personifies:

  • femininity, peace and prosperity (China);
  • friendship and mutual sympathy, strong ties (USA);
  • loss, grief (Italy, France, Belgium, Austria).

White color symbolizes purity, decency and nobility. To emphasize the sincerity of your feelings, you can give white chrysanthemums to any person. You can also present a bouquet in advance to gain trust and hope for a long, fruitful cooperation.

Attention! Snow-white plants can be given as a sign of reconciliation. This is a symbol of a reboot of relationships and good hopes for the future.

Why do you dream of white chrysanthemums?

In dream interpretation, white chrysanthemums (as opposed to other colors) mean sadness or loss, which will ultimately give impetus to inner spiritual growth. Any actions with these flowers promise difficulties and adversity. A girl who sees them in a dream should be prepared to meet great love, which she will lose because of her pride and immoderate ambitions. Collecting chrysanthemums in a dream means facing troubles in real life.

White chrysanthemums: a sign of love and sadness. Often such dreams foreshadow heartache.

However, it is difficult to say unequivocally why white chrysanthemums are dreamed of. All known dream books give different, sometimes contradictory answers to this question. When deciphering a dream, the first thing you need to consider is whether you dreamed of a fresh or withered flower, or whether you saw one or several flowers in a dream.

So, for example, if you dreamed of a stranger presenting you with a lush, fresh bouquet, most likely a joyful event will happen in your life in the near future. If the presented composition of white chrysanthemums is not of the first freshness, expect trouble. The more flowers in the bouquet, the greater the joy or sorrow.

In any case, there is no need to attach too much importance to what white chrysanthemums mean in dreams. After all, their reliability is influenced by too many factors, including the day of the week and time of day.

What do white chrysanthemums look like?

This plant can be annual or perennial. Its shoots are upright, 25-150 cm high, depending on the species. They are highly branched, with numerous thin branches that are densely leafy. The leaves are stem, their size varies from 7 to 15 cm. The shape and dissection of the plates also differs depending on the type of crop.

The leaves at the top of the shoots are smaller, have short petioles and are often entire. If you look closely, you can see numerous pinpoint glands on them. The surface of the plates is dark green, and on the reverse side there is dense pubescence, which gives a gray tint.

The leaves of white chrysanthemums, when rubbed, emit a rich, specific smell.

White chrysanthemums have basket-shaped inflorescences, which consist of marginal reed flowers and central tubular ones. The diameter of the buds varies: small ones - from 2 to 9 cm, medium ones - from 9 to 16 cm, large ones - 16-25 cm.

According to the shape of the inflorescences, white chrysanthemums are:

  • not terry;

    Non-double flowers resemble daisies and are unpretentious

  • anemone-shaped;

    Anemone-shaped flowers up to 15 cm in diameter, budding is abundant and long-lasting

  • semi-double

    Semi-double chrysanthemums have a flat shape with a convex center, they are resistant to dry air, and are distinguished by early flowering

  • spherical;

    The species has the shape of a ball or cone, is demanding on lighting and care

  • pompons;

    Pompom chrysanthemums have densely packed round shaped inflorescences

  • terry;

    In the double species, the tubular flowers have completely transformed into reed flowers, the center is closed

White chrysanthemums in landscape design and floristry

Chrysanthemums decorate our gardens with lush, abundant blooms throughout the long autumn. And white bush varieties are by no means the last among them. They look great in the garden, both monogamously and in mixed borders. There are many variations - from planting in flower beds to creating cascades and borders. And the overall impression depends on the type of flower.

A modest pastoral flower bed, seeded with chamomile or small-flowered chrysanthemums, is an ideal decoration for a garden or small home flower garden, decorated in Provence style. Another thing is a multi-tiered mixborder made of lush, large-flowered spherical chrysanthemum, reminiscent of a huge wedding cake. It will be a wonderful decoration for a romantic vintage landscape. There is sure to be a suitable solution for every site and owner’s taste.

As for floral compositions, both small and large white “queens” of autumn gardens look great both as independent units and in combination with flowers of other types and colors: irises, carnations, even sunflowers. One of the most popular options is white chrysanthemums with red roses. Florists also like to combine flowers of the same variety, but of different colors, in one bouquet. Such compositions made from chamomile varieties are especially effective.

Types of chrysanthemums by inflorescence size

Chrysanthemum varieties can be classified according to the size of the blooming flowers. They are divided into large-flowered, small-flowered, and medium-flowered.

Large-flowered varieties

Large-flowered chrysanthemums bloom in September and finish flowering at the end of December. Before the onset of November, they must be protected from the cold by moving them to closed ground. This variety of chrysanthemums is suitable for creating flower arrangements and bouquets. The stems reach a height of 0.7-0.8 meters, the opened buds reach 18 centimeters in diameter. Large-flowered varieties do not tolerate frost. The bushes must be carefully dug out of the ground for the winter.

A spherical bush with a diameter of 0.6 meters, single flowers. The petals are flat, tubular, and thick. Tubular varieties according to the shape of the petals are divided into thin-tubular, thick-tubular, and medium-tubular.

Medium-flowered varieties

Medium-flowered varieties of chrysanthemums have a diameter of opened buds of 9 centimeters. Petals are flat or tubular. The bush is slightly lower than the large-flowered varieties. Grown for bouquets or in pots for decorating interiors, balconies, and terraces.

Small-flowered varieties

Small-flowered varieties differ in the diameter of the opened buds up to 9 centimeters. Flowers are found simple and double. The bush is tall, the leaves are shaped like oak leaves. This variety is cold-resistant.

Among the small-flowered varieties, chrysanthemums of the Santini variety stand out. These are artificially bred Dutch hybrids. The small size of the root system and bush allows you to grow chrysanthemums of the Santini variety in containers. The opened bud is up to 5 cm in diameter. An individual plant can have up to 30 flowers. This variety of chrysanthemums is universal. The Santini variety can be planted in an apartment, front garden, greenhouse, and used to decorate landscapes and interiors.

As popular wisdom says, you can endlessly look at three things: fire, water and... white chrysanthemums. These colors amazingly combine solemnity and simplicity, modesty and pride, beauty and laconicism. Nature created these recognized queens of the autumn garden, as if specifically so that we could more easily endure the autumn blues and, even in frosty weather, remember that spring is just around the corner.

Description of types and varieties of white chrysanthemums

There are countless types and varieties of white representatives of annual or perennial Asteraceae family.

Stalion, white chrysanthemum

Some of them:

  • Chamomile. These include “Snegurochka”, “Chick”, “Himalayas”. They got their name due to their resemblance to chamomile: a large yellow core and white petals.
  • Korean grandiflora. These are “Swan”, “Bear”, “Poodle” and others. They look very voluminous and majestic.
  • Korean multiflora. They differ in that the edges of the petals become pink when flowering: “Furor”, “White”.
  • Bush varieties: “Euro”, “Coconut”, “Sky” (if you rub the core of the inflorescence at the time of flowering, it will turn lemon yellow).
  • Low-growing: “Bonita”, “Bride’s Attire”. They bloom in early autumn.
  • Chrysanthemum White Anastasia. It belongs to the Indian variety and is distinguished by large flowers mixed with green.

Additional Information . A self-propelled anti-tank missile system is named after an elegant flower. “Chrysanthemum PTK” was created at the Kolomenskoye Design Bureau of Mechanical Engineering. In addition, the edible vegetable chrysanthemum, which is used in Chinese medicine, is widely popular among people. In Bulgaria, “Chrysanthemum” is a wonderful 4* hotel near the sea.

Bacardi

Chrysanthemum Bacardi is a very elegant delicate flower. It was first presented in 2004 at a performance by singer M. Borsato. Now Bacardi is often included in mixed bouquets of different types of flowers.

Bacardi yellow

There is not only white, but also yellow, cream, red, soft pink. It blooms already in July and blooms until the end of September. With its strong green stem it remains durable for a long time.

Santini

Chrysanthemum Santini is considered a mini chrysanthemum. This is a small-flowered variety - a small and compact bush. The inflorescences are double, chamomile-shaped and spherical. Up to 30 flowers can open on one bush.

Santini variety

A very frost-resistant species, but during wintering it needs shelter.

Multiflora

Chrysanthemum Multiflora planting and care is not difficult. Now this variety is presented in almost all catalogs of famous flower companies. Multiflora can be grown both in pots and in open ground.

Note ! It is difficult for a novice gardener to choose from a huge number of “autumn queens” those that will be easy to cope with at first. Beginning flower growers should pay attention to the Sabu chrysanthemum, “Umka”, “Monomakh’s Cap” (an extraordinary color gradient will be created by planting “Monomakh” with the Lipstick chrysanthemum), “Apple Blossom” and “Grand Pink”. “Saba” will surprise you with its colors, and “Grand Pink” will withstand various temperature fluctuations.

A special feature is that the crown is naturally formed in the form of a ball. This variety was bred to decorate gardens. After the Multiflora has fully bloomed, not even foliage can be seen through the flower ball. The height of the shrub does not exceed 40 cm, however, among the varieties there are also tall specimens.

Multiflora

Plants do not need to be pruned; only pinching is recommended. The disadvantage of Multiflora is considered to be poor frost resistance; it is not easy for it to winter in European countries.

Early varieties:

  • Sunbeam Coral. Has coral flowers.
  • Amor Dark Pink. The flowers have a pleasant pink color and reach 4 cm in diameter.
  • Meridian Dar. Juicy, colorful, burgundy flowers are small in size, up to 3 cm in diameter.

Blooming in September:

  • Branroyal Yellow. The shrub has yellow flowers and reaches a height of 70 cm.
  • Branchili. Pleasant, soft cream color of flowers, about 4 cm in diameter, 40 cm in height.

Multiflora spherical

The chrysanthemum Multiflora globulus should be properly cared for:

  • Choose a good place for planting, where there will definitely be sunlight. In its absence, the shape of the bush will be greatly distorted. Do not plant near fences, as then there will be no uniform lighting.
  • Prepare the soil. In the autumn, you should add humus and ash, then carefully dig up the area. In the spring, dig again before planting. The optimal soil composition will be peat mixed with sand and turf soil.

Multiflora spherical

Reproduction occurs with the help of:

  • Semyon,
  • Shoots
  • Cherenkov.

Wintering in open ground

Wintering in open ground is very risky for Multiflora, but for some gardeners this process is successful. To do this, you should build a good shelter yourself.

Important ! Even before the onset of the first frost, the bushes should be covered. It is important not to do this very early, as diaper rash may appear at the roots.

There should be no holes in the soil around the bush to prevent moisture from retaining in them. When there is a thaw, the soil will receive an excessive amount of moisture, which will cause the roots to die.

Before sheltering, the bush is trimmed so that it can fit under the canopy. The frame of the shelter is made of boards on which insulation is placed. The cover is removed in March-April, after the frosts have subsided.

Multiflora in Siberia

For Siberia, Multiflora is a rarity, since it is not able to withstand temperatures below seven degrees below zero. Even if it is covered, it will die under harsh conditions.

The only way out is to use the earliest varieties, which will fade by the first frost. Then they should be placed in the shelter in October and the wintering conditions should be constantly checked: whether the soil is drying out or, conversely, waterlogged, whether there is mold or mildew.
